Yang’s research interest includes the microbiome and syntrophic interaction in bioelectrochemistry system. He has focused on understanding the regulation mechanism of extracellular electron transfer between electroactive biofilm and electrode interface based on multi-omics (e.g., 16S rRNA sequencing, metagenomics, metatranscriptomics and metaproteomics). He is also interested in anaerobic biological treatment and energy recovery of wastewater.

He will continue to explore the metabolic mechanism of electroactive microorganisms.
